Flybrid Systems have completed the first full speed test of their patent applied for containment system and it was a complete success.

Stopping from over 64,000 RPM in 5.9 seconds the system showed itself capable of dissipating the stored energy very effectively. The event was so unimpressive from outside the test chamber that Managing Partner Jon Hilton, present at the time, said "there was so little noise and vibration that we were not at all sure it had actually gone".

On stripping the test unit the entire outer housing and both end housings were found to be reusable. Damage was contained to only the flywheel itself and the patent applied for energy dissipation rings.
