Flybrid head to Le Mans November 2010
The
Le Mans 24 hour race will feature its first flywheel hybrid car in 2011
following the announcement by the Hope Racing (HR) team that they will
be fielding a LMP1 car fitted with a Flybrid kinetic energy recovery
system.
Le Mans is renowned the world over as a testing ground
for the latest automotive ideas. Covering well over 5,000 kms with no
rest, the top class LMP1 cars showcase the highest level of sports car
technology that will soon be filtering down to road cars. This will be
particularly true in 2011 as the race opens up entries to flywheel
hybrid cars for the first time.
The HR entry will be based
upon an Oreca LMP1 chassis with a Lehmann Motor 2 litre turbo charged
engine, an Xtrac 1059 gearbox and a Flybrid flywheel based KERS. The
team will contest the Intercontinental Cup which includes many classic
endurance races as well as the Le Mans 24 hour race.
