The Flybrid system was initially developed for road vehicle application but there are a number of other possible uses for either the whole system or discrete components of it.

Trains                                                                                                                  When most trains are powered either directly or indirectly by electricity it might seem like a forgone conclusion that electric hybrid technology is the right choice for braking energy recovery. In fact this is not true and a Flybrid equipped train could save around twice as much of the normally wasted energy as an electric hybrid one. On certain train duty cycles energy savings of up to 50% are possible. Braking energy storage and recovery on trains also has a number of significant secondary advantages such as greatly reduced brake wear and reduced heat generation - particularly important in underground installations.

Flywheel Storage Module                                                                                        The flywheel storage module is a self contained unit comprising the flywheel, containment housing, bearings and vacuum seal. Flybrid Systems are able to make flywheel storage modules in a range of sizes to suit different applications and their speciality is vibration resistant units running on rolling element bearings. This technology solution is small, light and can be installed in any orientation.

Vacuum Seal Technology                                                                                          A key component of the Flybrid system is what the company believe to be the highest speed vacuum shaft seal in the world. The seal is scaleable to larger sizes (at lower speeds) and could have many uses where a mechanical drive is required into a vacuum chamber.
